The diagonal lines of rooftops

The converging lines of streets

The coloured gloom of Oldbury

The little shop of sweets

 

Where rain and trees were rare things

And alone I often ran

Before the hills of Rowley

And pleasant Clent began

 

I always swung in Barnford

On an arc of youthful plans

They often met with sorrow
